There is just so much going on in Back Together world during the past few weeks…

Two weeks ago, I spoke at the Health Freedom Expo in Chicago, and participated in a panel discussion with several other contributors to Martha Stewart’s Whole Living- it was a really fun event, and I had the opportunity to meet some of the readers of Whole Living, and visitors to my blog. Thank you so much for coming out to see me- it was fantastic getting to know some of you.

I’ve been out promoting the Back Together iPad app. The response from users so far has been wonderful. If you have an iPad, and you haven’t gotten Back Together Interactive, what are you waiting for? Join users who have been finding relief using this new and innovative approach to back and neck pain. Click here to download it now!

The manuscript for book two is getting closer!!! I am looking for an end-of-August or beginning-of-September release of this book, and it is turning out great. I am keeping some of the details of this one under my hat until it gets closer to being done, but you’re going to love it. In a related note- I have acquired the rights from my previous publisher for my first book, Back Together- Hands-on Healing for Couples, and will be re-releasing that one as well- with some great improvements. All of this will be coming to you under the new Back Together Media label. I am really excited about this.

I have a stack of viewer mails to respond to- look for one later today, and there should be a new post from me on the Martha Stewart website sometime in the next day or two.

Thanks for stopping by!

One of the ONLY images of a shuttle docked with the International Space Station- photo taken from a leaving supply ship. Amazing! I watched the shuttle program in awe from day 1. Here's hoping the U.S. finds its way back into space SOON!

Viewer Question Regarding Anti-inflammatory Medications…

“My doctor recently prescribed an anti-inflammatory for a sprained back. It does seem to take some of the edge off, but I feel like I am just putting a band-aid on the pain, without really helping things to heal. Shouldn’t I be doing physical therapy or something to help get myself out of pain?”
-Jason

Jason, thanks so much for your great question.

It can often feel like pain medications are just, as you put it, a band-aid, but anti-inflammatories are an interesting sub group of pain medications. You see, while drugs like Motrin do reduce pain, they may actually help you to heal faster as well. Sprains and strains of muscles and other tissues result in inflammation which occurs in the form of swelling or edema. What this swelling can do is inhibit blood flow to the areas which are healing, and actually prolong the length of time it may take for you to feel better. While sometimes additional treatment like physical therapy may be helpful, it is important to note that every injury is different- and this may not be right for you. Additionally, some injuries require time to become less acute before implementing more physically intensive approaches. If you have questions or concerns, you should really speak to your physician, and tell them what you are thinking- they should be willing to discuss your treatment options, and the thoughts behind their treatment decisions.

I hope this helps.

Updates…

I have been working furiously to finish up the Back Together iPad application, and it is getting much closer to being finished. The other programmer, Jessie, and I have been going to great lengths to make this a truly great program. Check back here for more updates.

Next week, I will be headed to Miami to do the final shooting for my next book, ‘Back Pain: The One Thing.’ I am really proud of how this is all turning out, and I know you will really love the book.

As everyone embarks upon living up to their new years resolutions, you might have noticed that I haven’t posted a Fitness Challenge update in some time- check back later in the week for the latest news. In the mean time, why not let me know how you are doing with your own fitness goals.

Thanks for stopping by,

Andy

OK- Let’s see how geeky my viewers really are. What’s wrong with this picture?

Back Together Interactive for iPad!!!

Thursday, November 4th, 2010

So, for the past several weeks I’ve been working to get the Back Together iPad app up and running. Barring any complications it should be uploaded to the app store to await approval some time by the end of next week.

I am so excited about the app, as it offers the fictionality of the Back Together DVD package (available at Amazon) along with some really cool interactive features, most importantly a direct link from the techniques in the application to a live, on-line forum where users can share their experiences with other back & neck pain sufferers, and ask me and other back pain experts questions about back and neck pain.

It is my hope that over time we will generate a vital on-line community for people to help each other to find relief, and Share the Art of Healing.

Check back over the next couple weeks for announcements about the app, and a release date, a well as an exciting announcement about the next Back Together book.

Thanks for stopping by,

Andy

Updates: Back Together Interactive for iPad, Fibromyalgia Syndrome

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

iPad Application- Back Together Interactive

I have been working feverishly on finishing the Back Together iPad application, and as it starts to come together it is looking more and more like something special. I have integrated some features that have never been done before in any back pain program, or on any iPad application for that matter. I will have a better sense of the release date with in the next week or so- so stay tuned for updates.

Fibromyalgia Syndrome Series

I have gotten plenty of feedback on the first two parts of the fibromyalgia series- mostly complementary or in the form of requests for aspects of the condition people would like to see covered here on the blog. I did receive 3 emails from pain-sufferers with a completely different take on the syndrome. I posted and replied to one of them yesterday. It seems that even though most of the medical community accepts and understands the diagnosis of FMS to be a real diagnosis, there are still hold-outs.

The main issue I have with these hold outs is that people suffering with fibromyalgia syndrome often feel as though the deck is stacked against them already, without other individuals falsely stating that their diagnosis is wrong, or is something else altogether. I welcome constructive discussion on the topic, so please share your thoughts here on the blog.

See you tomorrow!

Book Review, Lance Armstrong’s Livestrong, iPad App….

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

I hope you had a fantastic Fourth of July weekend. Here in Philadelphia it was ridiculously hot- you felt like you could spontaneously burst into flames walking out the front door. I was busy with a lot of Back Together related stuff during the past few days- some of it I will share with you over the coming weeks, but here are a few quick updates….

Be the Boss of Your Pain review…

I know many of you check out the blog from work, and as many of you had the holiday off, I would encourage you to check out yesterday’s book review. Be the Boss of Your Pain is a wonderful book aimed primarily at kids dealing with pain issues. I really cannot say enough positive things about it, as this is an oft neglected topic.  I  treat some children with back & neck pain in my practice, and it is so nice to be able to offer an additional resource to them and their parents.

Lance Armstrong’s Livestrong website….

You may already know that I regularly contribute to Martha Stewart’s Whole Living Daily website and blog (I provide links to my most recent posts on her site here on BackWords.) I am pleased to announce that I will also be regularly contributing to Lance Armstrong’s Livestrong website and blog. If you are not familiar with Livestrong, you should check out the site- it provides fantastic advice and articles on improving basically every performance aspect of your life. Better yet it is linked with the Livestrong Foundation, dedicated to improving the lives of individuals dealing with cancer. I am proud to be associated with this organization. I will keep you posted on when to look for an article by yours truly on their site.

Back Together Interactive for iPad…

I have been working furiously on the Back Together iPad application, and I am really excited about how things are turning out. When finished, this fun, user friendly, interactive program will give you quick access to hands on techniques, suggestions, and ideas for helping to relieve your back and neck pain. Best of all, the program will seamlessly integrate with the Back Together online forum which will be going live on my site soon. I hope that the application will help us to create an online community of people sharing thoughts and experiences on how to live pain free lives.

Stay tuned for more info as it becomes available.

It is going to be hotter than Hades today, so try to find air conditioning, and please remember to stay hydrated.

Be well!

-Andy
